[Character IC Information]
Character Name and Series: Michael Carpenter, The Dresden Files (books)
Name in Role Play: Michael Carpenter
Race/Ethnicity: European/of English descent, but has lived in Italy for years.
Age: early 40s
Gender: male
Appearance: Michael has dark hair and eyes, and a serious expression usually on his face. He's somewhat attractive, in a sort of conventional, middle-aged way -- he's aged well. He is solidly built, and heavily tanned, with callous hands -- all things that point to a working-class man who does a lot of work outside. His Italian is very accented. He moved with a great deal of confidence.

Typically, Michael wears a simple work shirt and pants, and thick boots. The clothing is clean, well-mended, simple and practical. He will wear nicer clothing -- a jacket and waistcoat, and a hat -- for church. He generally dresses in muted colors, both as a show of practicality, and his own age, and out of religious conviction.

When doing serious hunting, Michael will affect a full set of armor that looks positively medieval, though it is lighter and stronger than medieval armor, and contains fibers of Kevlar to block bullets. Over it he wears a white surcoat with a red cross.
Personality: If one meets Michael during his day job, he comes across as an easy-going, generally good guy, though a bit serious -- the sort of dependable hard worker that people like. He conducts himself with honor and dignity, and is a kind and helpful person. He also seems quite likable, the sort to chat with you about your family and want to know how your kids are doing.

Michael gets a bit more stern and hardened at his other job, that of demon hunter. He still conducts himself with honor, but he makes it clear there are some lines his foes cannot cross. He is not without mercy, but he is determined and quite willing to go down fighting in the name of protecting others.
Abilities/Weaponry: Michael is a passive white mage, which he believes is a gift from God. it never occurred to him that this was magic, and it offered him (and his family and home) some protection against demons -- supernatural creatures find it difficult to touch him without discomfort, and there is a closet in his house that shields the occupants from supernatural detection (a minor ward), thanks to Michael's prayers. He is very skilled at the sword, and well as several other archaic weapons. His favored weapon is a large, old-looking sword known as Amoracchius, with an old nail -- said to be a holy relic from the Crucifixion -- mounted in the hilt. The sword does seem to be unusually effective against demons, and does seem to be blessed. Michael also does carry a cross against vampires.

As for more mundane talents, he also is very skilled at woodcraft and carpentry, and construction in general. He speaks English and Italian, and knows a few words in other languages -- enough to get directions and find the bathroom.
Weaknesses: Michael has a strict code of honor. He has problems doing nothing when he sees people being hurt, especially by supernatural agents. As a result, this hinders his ability to do stealth. His behavior code is looser when it comes to how his allies behave, but he still will disapprove of the blacker sorts of magic. Michael is also incredibly protective of his family, and may stop everything to help them -- or at least will be tempted to. A lot of his virtues correspond to weakness -- his ability to forgive means that he will give human/formerly-human foes the benefit of the doubt within reason. Unless they are actively hurting others, he usually will let magic users/were-critters or vampires go with a warning. This has caused evil people to get away from him before, but he refuses to change this policy, convinced that even the most heinous creature can seek to repent. (Bull-headedness is another of his weaknesses.)
History: Michael Carpenter grew up in the southern part of England, the son of two working-class parents, and part of a Roman-Catholic household. His childhood was mostly uneventful, he grew up a good kid, whose worse crime was a bit of roughhousing with his brothers.

When Michael was in his late teens, however, he was helping a friend out who was worried about a local gang that was trying for recruits in town. Michael promised to investigate, and discovered that it was lead by a demon seeking souls to corrupt -- and, now that he was found out, Michael had the choice of giving his own soul up or dying. Michael calmly told the demon that he would rather die, and was about to at least try to get a blow in with the nearest blunt object, when help arrived. Thankfully, someone else -- Shiro Yoshimo of the Knights of the Cross -- was also investigating the gang. Shiro drove the demon and offered Michael a place as his squire.

Michael spent the next five or so years traveling Europe with Shiro, learning how to use the sword, fighting demons and practicing his more mundane trade of carpentry. Shortly after Shiro parted ways with him, Michael came upon the town of Allupato, where the same demon that had menaced him five years ago had established a new power base. Michael finally managed to kill it, rescuing a number of people that were unknowingly following it. One of those was a young woman named Charity, who Michael fell for and married.

Michael still continued to travel, though he kept residence in Allupato, and worked as a carpenter there. He and Charity -- who was quite willing to assist him as his armorsmith/weaponsmith and sparring partner -- had seven children and a picture of domestic bliss. Michael was very careful to keep his other job as not public knowledge. While Charity and the older children knew about it, he didn't want his own activities drawing down demons on his family.
Organization/Pack/Clan/Guild?: Planning on starting a guild based on Michael's canon affiliation with the Knights of the Cross
